Residential Insulation

Improve the year-round comfort and energy performance of your home's attics, additions, and new construction with blown-in cellulose or fibreglass insulation.

Homeowner Solutions

Lower Utility Bills & Eliminate Drafts

Upgrading your home's attic insulation is one of the highest-ROI home improvements available. Proper blown-in coverage keeps warmth inside during winter cold snaps and blocks attic heat from radiating down in summer.

Building Science & Ice Damming

Preventing Ice Dams & Heat Loss at Attic Eaves

The junction where the exterior wall meets the roof slope is the most vulnerable point for heat loss. Proper insulation depth and continuous venting clearance prevent snow melt refreeze and catastrophic ice dam build-up.

Figure A-9.36.2.6.(3): Area of ceiling assemblies in attics permitted to have reduced thermal resistance while preserving essential soffit ventilation clearance.

1Why Ice Dams Form

When heated air escapes through the ceiling and attic floor, it warms the upper roof deck, causing snow to melt prematurely. As water runs down toward the cold uninsulated overhang (eave), it re-freezes into an ice dam, backing water up under shingles and into interior ceilings.

2Code-Compliant Eave Clearance

Under National & Ontario Building Code (NBC A-9.36.2.6.(3)), effective thermal resistance values near the roof perimeter account for roof slope and truss heels. Proper installation ensures a minimum nominal RSI of 3.52 (R-20) right at the outer top plate while leaving unobstructed space for soffit airflow.

3Proper Baffling & Blown Coverage

Romulus ensures rafter baffles (vent chutes) are in place so blown-in cellulose or fibreglass reaches maximum allowable depth without blocking ventilation channels or blowing loose into the soffits.
